| Safety in social settings:- If you are in familiar surroundings, such as your apartment, or your friend’s house, you are more likely to let your guard down. Students tend to drink more in these settings than at clubs or bars and may put themselves in dangerous situations.
- Many sexual assaults on campus occur after excessive use of alcohol as someone the affected student knows or just met goes back to that student’s room with them.
- The LoboRespect Advocacy Center (LRAC), the Women’s Resource Center (WRC), Student Health and Counseling (SHAC), and LGBTQ are confidential resources.
- Alcohol studies have been done by COSAP with UNM Students. Check it out. The results may not be what you expected. How do you react to alcohol? Are you more likely to be pressured into sex when you drink?
- Sexual Assault is when you do not or cannot consent to sexual activities. If you think you have been sexually assaulted, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) exam is a confidential way to get treated medically and get all the resources you may need. If you have a SANE exam done, you can still report to police down the road and have the evidence to back you up in a criminal investigation.

| Protect the Pack; Safety Tips:- Bystander Intervention is a way to disrupt a situation before it gets worse. You can learn about different techniques from LRAC.
- Did you know you can use the timer on your Lobo Guardian app as a way to communicate with a friend when to meet? You can set the timer and tell your friend that when the timer goes off it is time to check in on each other.
- Call for Medical Services. Alcohol poisoning and drug overdoses can be lethal if not attended to immediately. Call 911. Don’t expect others to do it. Studies have shown that if there is a group of people present during an incident, chances are that each person expects someone else will get help. Don’t take that chance.
- Amnesty is granted to students who may have violated drug or alcohol related policies under the Student Code of Conduct. The safety of students is our main focus, so don’t be afraid to report something.
