Sex Offender Registration
The UNM Police Department has been charged with registering sex offenders, pursuant to the New Mexico Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) which was effective on July 1, 2005. The Act requires a person who is a sex offender convicted either in-state or out-of-state and who is employed, enrolled, volunteering or carrying on a vocation at an institution of higher education to register with the registrar of that institution, the local university police or the county sheriff of the county in which the higher education institution is located and the county sheriff of the county in which the person resides.
