Chief Guimond

The UNM Police Department consists of dedicated men and women who believe that the security of our students, staff, faculty, visitors and property is paramount. UNM Police Officers are state-certified and trained. They possess the same police authority as officers in cities and counties, including the authority to arrest for violations on-view and under warrant.
The UNM Police Department operates an emergency dispatch center 24 hours/day. The Department provides a variety of preventative services in addition to a traditional law enforcement response. Some of the preventative services include presenting a variety of crime prevention seminars upon request, providing free security surveys, performing vehicle and walking escorts throughout the campus, and helping to ensure that emergency blue light phones are working properly.
I encourage anyone who is a victim of or witness to a crime to promptly report the crime to the police. The UNM Police Department works very hard to keep our crime statistics low. We cannot accomplish this task without the assistance and support of our community. The UNM Police Department has developed and maintains strong partnerships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
The Department has a variety of assignments available to officers including, but not limited to K-9 handler, motorcycle officer, detective, field investigator, and field training officer. The UNM Police Department has a strong commitment to select highly motivated persons who demonstrate good judgment and initiative. We value diversity in our positions and invite and encourage women and minorities to apply for employment within the Department. Employment applications are accepted by the UNM Human Resources Department.
I hope that you will enjoy our website and that you will contact us if we can be of assistance to you. WELCOME!
